*HOWL* It's A Full Moon So That Must Be A Werewolf! Or Is It?

Dear readers,

So you all know that we are doing poetry out loud and we need to choose poems that speak to us. As per the assignment I picked the poem "Full Moon" by Elinor Wylie. I found this poem one night when I was looking through the POL website and the title intrigued me to look at the content of the authors mind, poured out onto the page. The first time I read "Full Moon", I was very mystified. To go along with the title of this blog I thought that the poem was talking about a werewolf because of the title and the emotions and pain the narrator was going through. After reading the poem a few more times and looking up the words that I did not know, I realized that the narrator was actually someone with overflowing emotions. But as I was memorizing this poem I finally realized what the last two stanzas meant after reading them about a hundred times in the process.

Those looming stanzas had me wondering for the longest time what they were about and now that I have connected with the poem by memorizing it, it is all clear to me. In the second to last stanza, she is trying with all her might to be rid of every last feeling that is eating her up, she just wants to be empty. The last stanza is about how she has finally gotten her feelings under control and discarded them but she then knew she would rather have overwhelming feelings than no feelings at all, because even if her feelings confused her she doesn't have any motivation without feelings.

I think that I initially was connected to this poem by the fact that I knew nothing about it and just wanted to uncover a hidden meaning. But as I started to understand it and commit it to memory I was drawn in by the tough feelings that she was having and how everyone gets like that at times. Her actions are a lot like mine as well because she goes out in the cold to clear her mind and sort her thoughts which is what I do. Over all I really like my poem and am excited to share it with the class.

Love, Amaya
